The S Word # 9

LETTING DOWN THE NETS

By Douglas Hambidge    # 9

Continued from last week …

“Jesus does not depart from him. Jesus does not give up on him and his hard-headedness.

The message is clear:

If you do what I tell you to do, you will be gathering people into the kingdom just as your gathered that catch of fish.

The final word is that those startled and amazed disciples threw in their lot with him.

                                                SUMMING UP

The steward is called to be obedient.

Mary’s advice to the servants at the wedding in Cana was,

Whatever he tells you to do, do it.”

                                    That’s a discipleship secret.

                                    That’s a stewardship secret.

                                    That’s the prelude to miracles.

Hence, the basic question to be asked

and asked again in all stewardship ventures is:

“What is God calling us to do?”

There is the call to be available. He cannot do without us.

There is the call to leave behind timidity

And face an adventure in the “deep water”.

There is the call to do what we do best.

There is the call to do what we do best.

There is the call to obedience.

There is the call to recognize that we cannot go it alone.

There is the call to commit to him without reserve.

Does this speak to us as stewards, and as leaders in the stewardship ministry?

*In God’s scheme of things I am necessary. If that is the case, then I’ll be ready when the adventure takes me out of my depth.

*The past is not the issue, but what God is calling me to do now, is what counts.

I will not anticipate failure—if he says “nets”, then “nets” it will be.

The results of this kind of stewardship are staggering. They are not the result of our effort, but his on our behalf.

Not our cleverness, but who he is that makes miracles.

                                    I will commit to him

                                     completely and immediately.
