Robin’s Notebook

It’s Here. . .

After floods and shipping delays, the new soundboard has arrived and has been installed. A special thanks to “Jinx” from St. Cuthbert’s who looked after the purchasing and installation of the new board. The new soundboard offers a variety of settings that can be used by performance groups, concerts and our regular Sunday services. This means that if someone were to adjust the settings in any way, we are able to push a button and our Sunday normal setting resumes. We have also added a new convertor that has improved the audio quality on our live stream platform. Probably the best feature is that the volume for all mics can be controlled by an iPhone! Yes I know, I am like a kid in a candy store!

If you know of anyone who is interested in, or collects old soundboards and tape decks, let the office know as we have an old sound board and tape deck that is now free to a good home.

Flower

Beginning this week Flower, our Parish Administrator, has started a new position as Parish Administrator for St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Marpole. This is a very part time position that only requires 8 hours a week. Flower remains our Parish Administrator with no change to hours with us. To accommodate the needs of both parishes, Flower will be working at St. Augustine’s on Thursdays each week, and will be in the office at All Saints on Mondays from 9am to 1pm.

While Flower may not be in the office on Thursdays, the office is open and messages will be checked from 9am to 1pm. Please join me is congratulating Flower on her new role.

Ukrainian Dinner

Save the date! In solidarity with Ukraine and in response to the urgent humanitarian need as a result of the Russian invasion, Saturday March 19 from 5-7pm the All Saints Men’s Group will be hosting a fundraising dinner for Ukraine. Cliff Chalmers has carefully sourced authentic (or close to authentic) Ukrainian cuisine from local sources. He and the Men’s group will be preparing what promises to be a very hearty and fulfilling meal.

Masks and Vaccination Passports are required and will be checked upon entry. As seating is limited, please contact the parish office to register while seats are available. While the dinner is by donation, the suggested donation is $25 per person. An anonymous source has agreed to match funds raised. So the challenge is on! Funds raised will be donated through the Primates World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF).

For more information, please contact Cliff Chalmers or the Parish Office.

Parish Council

Your new parish council met for the first time since Vestry last night. We had a full agenda with lots of good conversation. Among the many topics covered, Fundraising and Food Safe requirements were included.

Thanks to Jennifer Scott, council has approved three new fundraising ideas for this year. They include: Mom Shop & Swap, Music Concerts and a live performance show. More information about these creative and exciting initiatives will be coming soon.

Food Safe

Also discussed at Parish Council was the need for people to update their food safe certifications as this is essential for when we offer meals from our kitchen. Please see the following note from Liz MacDonald:

As we begin to encourage more social activities at All Saints, including hosting receptions, community meals, and food related events, we are also aware of the necessary requirements and precautions to ensure the safe handling and preparation of food in our kitchen.

It is mandatory that at least one person involved in food preparation, cooking and serving for an event holds a current FOODSAFE LEVEL 1 Certificate.

Some people have attended these courses, or have had their certificates renewed, and others are enrolled in the Continuing Education course being held at Delta Manor, Ladner on April 30th 2022.

Our monthly Community Meal is successful, but for those who volunteer to help, or would like to be involved in other aspects of food related events, I would encourage you to either take, or renew your Foodsafe licence.

The initial certificate, which involves an in-person day long course and exam is valid for 5 years, after which it can be renewed on-line.  However, it is recommended that due to changing requirements and COVID precautions, people would benefit from repeating the day long training course and re-certification.

Foodsafe courses are offered through Delta Continuing Education, (604-940-5550)  More general information is available at 1-800-505-9145.

Please contact Liz Macdonald, 604 946 0739 if you are interested in this aspect of volunteering.

All are welcome.    Thank you

It’s That Time of Year Again

Yes, it is that time when we jump forward one hour. Spring savings time applies to the church too. See you Sunday, an hour earlier. . .
