Welcome to 2024
It’s the start of a shiny new year - 2024 was supposed to be so much more futuristic than this wasn’t it? When I imagined 2024 as a child, I have to say I expected a lot more chrome ..
2023 ended on a high note here at All Saints. The lovely Shirley Brown and family provided the community with a free Christmas Day dinner which was very well attended and had plenty of volunteers. Thank you Brown family! People came from surprisingly far away which goes to show the need for connection is very much present.
Also in December, our friend Ellen organised the collection of toques, socks and treats for Mission to Seafarers. Thank you to everyone who contributed - the items were given to the Reverend Peter Smyth for distribution.
Here’s a note from him:
Dear All Saints
Promoting and providing for the Seafarers through our presence and hospitality is what the Mission to Seafarers does here in the Port of Vancouver. Seafarers come from all over the world esp. countries such as the Philippines, India, China, Myanmar, Indonesia and Ukraine.
The work they do touches us all: for much of what we depend on daily comes by sea and so Christmas is a time to express our gratitude to the Seafarers. The delivery of approx. 1500 gift bags to the ships is only possible through people’s generosity.
Please consider supporting our ‘Christmas at Sea Appeal’ as a way to show your compassion and express your gratitude to the Seafarers
Learn more about how to donate to the Mission, what we do and how to get in touch with us by going to the web page at www.flyingangel.ca.
We hope to see you this Sunday at 10 am for our Epiphany Sunday service. Followed by coffee and chat. Everyone likes coffee hour but we are in need of some more hands on deck. The sign up sheet is on the Welcome Board in the foyer so please sign up if you can. You don’t have to do it alone - you can sign up with a friend to make things easier.
Please don’t forget the ‘Readers Refresher’ next Sunday 14th January following the service. This is for everyone who reads during our Sunday services – those who have years of experience and those who have just joined this ministry. We will meet in the Sanctuary immediately after the service (yes, you may bring your coffee into the sanctuary!)
Another note for your diary - the January free Community Meal is on Tuesday 16 January at 6pm. The meal will be prepared by our friend, Chef David Blair. FreshWaves clothing truck will also be in attendance to provide new-to-you items for anyone who needs them.
I wish you all a very happy 2024 full of renewed energy and a refreshed sense of hope and joie de vivre. It’s going to be a good year!**
