Coming Up at All Saints

What a beautiful day. It’s not too hot, not too cold, there’s a lovely breeze but it’s not too windy. It’s a day Goldilocks would love. Perhaps summer is going to happen after all?

That’s what I’m talking about ….

This Sunday sees the return of the Ladner Market, bring your appetite because there are many varieties of deliciousness available there. It’s another sign that things are returning to ‘normal’ too and it feels great.

Speaking of Ladner traditions, it was pointed out to me that I was extremely negative when talking about May Days recently - and now I’ve re-read it, I agree - I was very negative! I don’t know why though because I always love May Days. For some reason my inner curmudgeon was in charge when I was writing! So, my apologies. May Days was a great success as always. Everyone loves it. We all get to see people we rarely bump into otherwise, the may pole dance happens, the parade is always great. I remember things like that in England when I was a kid but they seemed to stop happening before I was even in my teens. It’s a shame - it’s an excellent community event which brings everyone together. It seems like exactly the sort of thing the world needs just now.

So - this Sunday is Trinity Sunday and we meet at 8.30 am and 10 am to celebrate together. There is a recital by Delta Community Music School starting at 1.30 pm so you could just spend most of your day here and enjoy a little foraging expedition to the Market.

I’m going to request whatever song this guy is playing.

When you come to church on Sunday you will see an insert in your bulletin which asks you to list your favourite hymns. The plan is that you tell us which songs you would like to sing and we will get them into the services over the summer. Cool eh? You can also email the office with any requests or suggestions (about music I mean, not general suggestions about improving attitudes or talking less - when I want to be reminded about that I can look back at my school reports).

Just in case you’re interested, our All Saints is becoming a bit of a hub of local activity. Today we have Las Cantinas using our kitchen as they will be every Friday, indefinitely. This is a Mexican catering company - the smell drifting in from the kitchen is amazing. Tonight Delta Youth Theatre are having auditions in the hall, tomorrow the ARC Dogs are training here and next week we have a whole day of community mental health workshops on Saturday followed by “Lost in the 50’s” in the hall on Sunday at 1 pm. Isn’t this great? We are so blessed to have such great space and to be able to share it with the community. This is what we always wanted, and though it’s taken a while, the space is being very well used by all sorts of people. Yay us! Virtual high fives all round!
